Country Chic Wedding Decor

Wedded bliss still almost seven years later!- haha, a lot of life has happened and it has not been all fun and games as we would like you to think. Marriage is one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever had, but it is so worth it to be able to be committed to your best friend in the entire world.

Our second wedding anniversary was on November 26th this year and while it was a lot of fun to spend it together, I wanted to look back at one of the most perfect days we will have on this earth. As I was reminiscing one of my new friends, Molly, was looking at the pictures and she said, “You should do a blog post on your wedding decor!” So thank you Molly for the brilliant idea!

When Anthony and I got engaged in March of 2016 I already had an idea of what I wanted. I knew for the past 3 years that I was going to marry this man, so I had a plan. We were going to have a green and yellow wedding because he absolutely loves John Deere, and he works on John Deere equipment all day every day.

We are both very family oriented as well so bringing in a little bit of our family heritage was important to me too. So it was also a “vintage” theme.

Before I start I want to give Candice Marie Photography a huge shoutout. She captured our day PERFECTLY. She is so fun and laid back. We had a blast! She even got Anthony to kiss me for pictures (which Anthony does no PDA, ever. He won’t even hold my hand in a dark movie theater cuz someone might see). On the Farm

 So to start this Country Chic decor we have to start with a little family history. My grandparents grew up during the Depression era, so they learned to save everything and live off of what they have. Anthony’s grandparents grew up the same way. Most of the items that we found were in old sheds at both of our grandparents’ farms. 

 We found old windows from my mother’s parents house. When they remodeled and added onto their house to make room for their growing family, they decided to save their windows just in case they could be used again in another part of the house. The paint was chipping off, so I sanded down the paint (outside with the wind blowing away from me because it is lead paint) so that it was smooth and roughed-up looking all over the whole window. We used two of them as decor. One window we had to put new glass in, which was not expensive, from the local hardware store. After choosing our windows, we found decals with saying that we wanted on them at Hobby Lobby.

Barn Wood

The next thing that we found on both our grandparents’ farms was old barn wood. We cut them into pieces and nailed a clip on the front. In the clip we put pictures of our parents on their wedding days, and each set of grandparents on their wedding days. It was so fun to see the old pictures at each table!

We also used barn wood for a couple signs as well. I found longer, thicker boards and sanded them down a little bit on one side. Then I took stencils and a pencil and measured out our last name on them. After that I painted it on! I now have this piece of art set up in our living room- just in case I ever forget my last name.

Real, Vintage Decor

Another thing that my mom found in my grandparents shed was old coffee cans and old oil cans. We started collecting them from my aunts’ groves and antique stores. We have quite the collection now! My sister, who is a horticulture genius, arranged all of the flowers for me when she was home on Christmas break. You can see a coffee can in the background of the picture above, and one of the oil cans a few pictures above. These pieces added to the “vintage” part of the country chic theme.

My aunt Lois found some really cool green bottles in her grove one night. As she was walking around, she found more! What at one point in time was junk, turned into a beautiful center piece. I don’t have a picture of the actual bottle on a table so please forgive the photography and editing skills of the next picture. What my aunt did though, was soak the bottles in water. Then my dad cut the ends off of old spoons and bent them around the top. After that, my sister put flowers in them- wahla! beautiful, chic decor.

Listen to Your Mother

Now, whoever disagrees when people say, “listen to your mother” is crazy because my mother is so creative! She came up with this idea after seeing a bunch of old planter plates laying around in my grandpa’s shed. She could envision them painted yellow and green with the wedding pictures in the center. So she brought a couple boxes of old, rusty planter plates home! I honestly thought she was crazy for awhile, but after I saw how they turned out after they were sanded and painted, I knew she was onto something.

You can see the planter plate with one of our engagement pictures in the center in the background. It was so fun seeing her idea of some old, rusty “junk” turn into some chic decor! Also, please take note how beautiful my aunts’ cream cheese mints turned out. They were delicious!!

Old Toys- Who knew!

 Another item we found that was really fun to use for decor was Anthony’s old pedal tractor he used to use when he was a kid. Who would’ve thought an old, roughed-up toy could look so stinkin’ cute in front of a guest book table?!

Country Chic Decor 

The rest of the decor was found at varying places. It all ties in the Country Chic theme very well. 

This frame was found at The Cracker Barrel one day when we happened-upon it taking my grandparents out for supper. It was a perfect fit for what we were going for! The vintage feel of the frames in the “old” looking wood was a great addition to our guest book table.

Anthony’s cousin actually made the cake and then used real roses to put on it to give it a pop of yellow! It was gorgeous and super delicious! The chic-ness (is that even a word?) of her decorating of the frosting was perfect for our day. Here is a link to the cake topper we used.  This “E” should look familiar to some of you! It is now displayed in our store window with some other cute decor. We found this at Hobby Lobby and loved it! I had it hanging up in my house for awhile as well. The tin look ties it in with the country theme really well.

I also have to give my sister credit for all of the gorgeous flowers. She picked them out, ordered them, picked them up, and arranged them all. I did not have to lift a finger in that department. They were everything I wanted and more. We also had a brilliant idea to get sheaves of wheat and put wheat in throughout all of my arrangements. What an element to add to our theme!

I added this picture because I wanted you to see the beautiful ladder that the venue had for us with Edison bulbs hanging from it. My sister also made the arrangement that went in the middle of that. It really tied everything together beautifully.

What’s the point of having a boring old basket for cards when you can have a bright green mail box with a John Deere decal on the side?! My mom and I had so much fun spray painting this and putting the decal on. I till haven’t put it up at our house yet, but it WILL happen.

I’m sure there is some element of decor that we had that I totally forgot about, but this little detail will end this year-long endeavor into our wedding decor. Thank you for sticking with me this far! My mom, as a gift to Anthony, bought these John Deere display tractors. She bought the first tractor my grandpa bought himself, the first tractor Anthony’s grandfather bought himself, and Anthony’s favorite tractor. We have each of them proudly displayed in our house because of the meaning and heritage that those tractors carry on for our family.
